Prices vary by size, region and what's going in the skip. Here's a realistic starting point, plus the extras that catch people out.

Regional differences are real, but not a simple London premium. In AnyJunk's 2022 city survey, Leeds, Edinburgh, York and Northampton were among the cheapest cities for a 6- or 8-yard skip, while Southampton, Exeter, Bournemouth and Luton were the most expensive. General mixed waste is priced one way; heavier material like soil, rubble, bricks and tiles is usually priced separately since it's charged more by weight than volume. A dedicated "heavy waste" or "muck away" skip is often cheaper than a general skip of the same size if that's mostly what you're disposing of. Check what can and can't go in a skip before you book.
If the skip sits on a public road, add the council permit fee on top of the skip price — published guides cite fees from roughly £15 up to around £120 depending on the council and how long the skip is on the road, so check your own council's current charge. Most quotes are for a standard 1–2 week hire. Keeping a skip longer usually costs extra per day or week — ask upfront rather than assuming it's included.
Overfilling charges (if waste sits above the skip's sides — see our overfilling rules guide), charges for prohibited items found during collection, and re-delivery fees if the skip can't be collected on the scheduled day due to blocked access.
